When you decide to keep or replace your current business lighting, you essentially have three choices: incandescent, florescent (CFL), or LED lights. Admittedly, the florescent light was an improvement over the incandescent bulb, but the LED office lighting should be your go-to choice. Typically, when we design commercial interiors in Atlanta, we lean towards using LEDs instead of CFLs or incandescent. The cost of commercial LED lights in Atlanta has decreased considerably in the past few years making them an even more attractive commercial interior design option.
Below are six reasons to use LED lighting in your Atlanta office or workplace.
- LED lights last the longest of all lighting options.
Consider that the average incandescent bulb has a lifespan of about 1,500 hours—a fraction of what you can get from a CFL or LED bulb. When you compare a CFL to an LED, LED bulbs can last 25,000 to 50,000 hours vs. 8,000 for CFLs.
- They’re brighter, and brighter is better for reading.
LED lightbulbs are much brighter than incandescent or halogen bulbs of the same wattage. While reading in dim light will have no long-term effects on your employees’ vision, it does place an uncomfortable strain on their eye muscles. Note: It’s important to have the LED light directly above what one is reading. Therefore, LED lights in a desk lamp are ideal.
- LED bulbs are a far more energy efficient.
LEDs emit very little heat. In contrast, incandescent bulbs release 90% of their energy as heat, CFLs release about 80% of their energy as heat, according to Energy.gov. One tip off is how long CFLs take to completely light up whereas LED light bulbs produce light when an electrical current passes through them.
- LEDs are the best choice for environmentally friendly companies and businesses.
As discussed in #3, they have the ability to illuminate using less energy, thus reducing carbon emissions. LED lights contain no toxic elements that will eventually go to landfills. It is not widely known, but CFLs contain mercury and need to be recycled. LEDs focus light meaning you won’t need as many LEDs to light your office. Saving on waste and money.
- LED lights will save you money over the long term.
When you’re paying less for maintenance, on energy bills, and for the replacement of bulbs, you have more money to invest in your business. Increased energy costs won’t affect your bottom line as much when you choose LED lights for your business.
